Design Layers collaboration with Aston University & NDW

BREAD partner with Nairobi Design Week and Aston Univeristy to showcase 3D printing innovation in emerging economies.

Design Layers is a collaboration between several institutions across the UK and Kenya, including the University of Aston and the University of Nairobi. The company, which includes Kenyan and UK-based engineers, develop 3D printing skills and products to break into markets that have been opened up to disruptive companies with the advent of affordable 3D printing technology.

With partnerships in place and products in development, the project, led by Aston University utilised team from Nairobi Design  Week and BREAD to showcase the idea. Nairobi Design Week provided the perfect platform to capture the imaginations of local designers with how digital manufacturing could impact the economy – but the launch required marketing assets to reach further than the design week.

In addition to the marketing agency’s extensive experience in launch campaigns, BREAD had already collaborated with Nairobi Design week on an installation for 2018’s London Design Biennale. This collaboration uniquely set apart BREAD with their insights into both markets, the UK and Kenya.

“Our advertising agency is about more than delivering marketing campaigns – we want to help change the world for good, so working with Design Layers to showcase such important innovations in an emerging economy like Kenya is key – we are continually amazed by the speed of developments coming out of Africa!”
