London Design Biennale 2018 – #LDB18

London Design Biennale #LDB18 kicks off – examine designs exploring the theme ’emotional states’ from over 40 countries.

As an agency focused on changing the world for good through its evocative and cross channel projects, LDB18’s unifying theme inspired both visitors and participators from across the globe, gracing the UK capital for a month of eye opening work. As the only pavilion not representing a static nation state, the ‘Refugees’ Pavilion’ took central stage.

The advertising agency, that have delivered several interactive campaigns, were invited by Nairobi Design Week to take part in the Refugees’ Pavilion, a collaborative installation featuring work by refugee designers that detail their lives and journeys. Other partners included Refushe, Better Shelter and Makers Unite – all working to engage and unite refugees across the globe.

Developers and designers watched other visitors participate in the #LabelledHuman launch; the campaign encourages participants to call out the labels they have been associated with, and ultimately break them down with the message that “we are all #LabelledHuman”. Up to 300,000 visitors engaged with the Refugees’ Pavilion installation and witnessed the #LabelledHuman launch.

#LDB18 featured several other installations that resonated with BREAD’ vision of changing the world for good.

The UK’s entry for the biennale featured ‘Maps of Defiance’; the installation explores how design collaboration can influence justice. Designers, software developers, investigators and photographers worked together using digital image capture advances to train locals in gathering evidence of genocide and destruction of cultural or historical landmarks in Iraq.

With design professionals frequently segregated into fashion, furniture or marketing disciplines in popular thought, Maps of Defiance inspired creatives globally to review the wider, invaluable impact design has in the world.
